How to Best Enjoy St. Patrick’s Day in Savannah

Plan Your Transportation and Parking in Advance

Since it’s one of the country’s largest, the Savannah St. Patrick’s Day celebration requires a little bit of planning. You’ll want to expect large crowds and congested streets. That said, be sure to choose your preferred parking garage (and a back-up) in advance if you’re planning on driving to and from the parade. We recommend either carpooling or using a ride-hailing service like Uber or Lyft if you plan on consuming alcohol. Minimizing traffic in downtown Savannah and staying safe should be among your highest priorities!

Know the Parade Time and Route

As important as knowing how you’ll get to the parade is knowing the parade’s starting time and route. This year, expect the parade to start around 10:15 a.m. on March 16. We recommend arriving downtown as early as possible to beat the crowds and find a seat in the bleachers. Be sure to also check the parade route and road closures in advance!

Enjoy Being Part of Savannah’s Sea of Green!

The most important advice we can give you ahead of the St. Patrick’s Day celebration is to simply enjoy yourself! In addition to Savannah’s usual charming shops, award-winning restaurants, and historic landmarks, St. Patty’s Day Weekend brings even more unique sights to see. Aside from the parade, be sure to see the fountain in Forsyth Park for a stunning surprise! Finally, you’d be remiss not to grab a green beer and enjoy it as you walk the streets (Savannah doesn’t have open container laws prohibiting this).
