Your Guide to the Harbour Town Light on Hilton Head
About the Historic Lighthouse
The Harbour Town Lighthouse is one of Hilton Head’s most iconic attractions! It was originally constructed by Charles Fraser in 1970 and still stands in the heart of Sea Pines (a private vacation rental community on the South End of Hilton Head Island). The 90-foot tower itself is hexagonal and features broad red and white stripes. Though widely recognized as a photo opportunity, museum, gift shop, and observation deck, the lighthouse is fully functional. Its white light flashes every 25 seconds—illuminating the way for yachts that may enter the Harbour Town Marina!
Before You Visit
To visit the lighthouse, you must obtain a day pass to Sea Pines Plantation (for a small fee at the front gate). This provides unlimited access to the Harbour Town community for a full day! Then, you’ll have to pay another small fee to enter the lighthouse itself. That fee grants you access to the museum, gift shop, and observation deck.
Harbour Town and the Sea Pines Community
Once you pay to get into Sea Pines, the Harbour Town Lighthouse is just one of many sights to see. You’ll also want to check out the array of shops, restaurants, and bars that surround the lighthouse. Here, you’ll find the iconic Salty Dog Cafe, Cups and Cones ice cream shop, and so much more. Need some tee time? Head over to Harbour Town Golf Links: The Hilton Head golf course made famous by the RBC Heritage!
