While we love The Promenade, Bluffton’s charming downtown area, our location is ideal for those who want to explore the rest of the Lowcountry, too! We’re just a quick drive away from Hilton Head, Savannah, and Beaufort. If you’re planning a fall trip to our beautiful region, we recommend checking out the Beaufort Shrimp Festival! Keep reading to learn all about why we love this “shrimply fabulous” local event. For more local tips and suggestions, be sure to access our complimentary Bluffton Area Vacation Guide!
Everything You Need to Know About the Beaufort Shrimp Festival
Cooling temperatures, great seasonal food, and festive events make October a fabulous time to visit the Lowcountry! One of our favorites is the Beaufort Shrimp Festival, which is held every year during the first weekend in October. You’ll find all of the festivities at Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park, which is about 40 minutes north of Old Town Bluffton. This seafood fest is free to attend and fun for the whole family! You’ll get to taste plenty of delicious seafood, browse local artists’ crafts, listen to live music, and more.
It wouldn’t be a shrimp festival without shrimp! All kinds of local seafood, however, will make an appearance at the event. Up to 15 local restaurants showcase their best shrimp-centric dishes each year and compete for the “Best Recipe” title. Be sure to purchase tasting tickets (for $1 each) to use at the food and beverage booths. Items usually cost between two and eight tickets. Even non-seafood lovers will find something to taste here!
The festival kicks off on Friday night at 6 p.m. with a concert under the stars. Gather at Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park and enjoy a lineup of local bands by the river! There will be an assortment of lighted shrimp boats to observe as you enjoy some tunes.
The Run, Forrest, Run 5K
Lace up your running shoes, because there’s a 5K, too! Named after the famous movie filmed partly in Beaufort, the race will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday. In fact, you’ll run (or walk) past several Spanish moss-draped scenes that were featured in Forrest Gump. If you wear a costume inspired by the movie, you’ll be entered to win a special prize! Race participants and observers will meet at the Newcastle and Bay Street intersection for what promises to be an invigorating experience. Afterward, you’ll get to refuel at the food and beverage booths!
Tip: If you’re bringing the kids, be sure to register them for the “Popcorn Shrimp Run!”
